Copyright review in the US:
A little over a year ago, the US Department of Commerce's Internet Policy
Task Force, led by the USPTO and the National Telecommunications and
Information Administration (NTIA), issued a green paper on Copyright
Policy, Creativity and Innovation in the Digital Economy (Green Paper).
The US Internet Policy Task Force held roundtable discussions on hot
(1) the legal framework for remixes;
(2) the first sale doctrine in the digital environment; and
(3) statutory damages in the contexts of (i) individual file sharers and
(ii) secondary liability for large-scale infringement.
The stated purpose of the roundtables was to seek additional input from the
public around the country and for the Task Force to then make informed
The roundtables took place in May in Nashville, in June in Cambridge, in
July in Los Angeles and in Berkeley.
The webcasts and transcripts of the third and fourth Green Paper
roundtables are now also available.
Click here to view the July 29th Los Angeles, CA roundtable
and here to view the July 30th Berkeley, CA roundtable.
Note: Many speakers/organizations spoke at events re the Green Paper in
Washington DC and elsewhere but I assume many people in the audience had
not heard from them yet.
