"In an apparent attempt to control dissenting internal voices and prevent them from tarnishing holiday celebrations on May 5th, the government introduced ... the "Bloggers Law" ... the government appears to be even more concerned with the role of Russian online activism in the "White Ribbon" (or "Snow Revolution") protest movement surrounding the 2011-2012 Duma and Presidential elections-a movement that used Facebook and other online organizing tools to bring crowds of over 100,000 to the streets in Moscow, and inspired large protests in other cities."
