Dear Friends,
   In Chicago, this week and next, governments are negotiating the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement. This will have huge implications for people living with HIV around the world.
Why?
Big Pharma and the U.S. government has put forward major new restrictions on generic drug production. They are trying to ensure that other countries in Asia and Latin America don't follow India's model of limiting the power of patents and corporate power. They want to make sure that countries like Vietnam don't start serious production of ARVs and halt the production already going on.

And most important, while only 9 countries are involved so far, there is an explicit plan for this to become a deal that covers the entire pacific region!
====
This week US activists put together two major actions... Thousands of union activists and AIDS activists joined together to march through Chicago to the hotel to draw attention to the negotiations. Then Wednesday, Health GAP, Gender Just, and other activists did an action which turned the entrance of the hotel into a "crime scene"--closing down the entrance to demand negotiators face the life-and-death decisions being negotiated secretly inside.

Negotiations are ongoing until next Thursday...
Can others chime in? Are there good ideas for other international actions? We can help support...
