Effect of point-of-care CD4 cell count tests on retention of patients
and rates of antiretroviral therapy initiation in primary health
clinics: an observational cohort study

UNITAID has funded pilot studies of point-of-care CD4 to enable
countries' adoption of testing that would ultimately benefit infants.
The support was used to provide CD4 machines and reagents for a
Mozambique clinical evaluation and pilot field studies. This pilot work
has enabled the Government of Mozambique and partners to test the
technology, its performance and its applicability in the field. In turn,
this has led to decisions about implementation that will benefit both
adult and infant patients.
