Catalyzing Markets to Accelerate Access to Point-of-Care HIV Testing
Sunday 22 July 2012
3.45 - 5.45 pm

Session Room 7
The World Health Organization (WHO)/UNAIDS Treatment 2.0 Initiative recognizes that a continuum of services and technologies are required to fulfill the promise of universal access to HIV treatment, emphasizing the role that cheaper, simplified diagnostics must play in caring for millions of HIV positive men, women, and children.
In this satellite session, WHO, UNITAID and Pangaea Global AIDS Foundation provide an update on progress in the development, availability, and use of POC and simplified platforms for HIV diagnostics. UNITAID will announce groundbreaking investments to dramatically scale up access to POC HIV diagnostics in 10 high-prevalence African countries through catalyzing global markets for these promising new technologies. Implementing partners will spotlight the innovative features of their interventions and highlight the market and public health impact they will achieve introducing POC CD4, viral load and EID diagnostics as they emerge from the pipeline on never-before-seen scales.
