MSF Access Cammpaign is recruiting a R&D Campaign Adviser. Please find

I- MSF ACCESS CAMPAIGN
The Access Campaign was started in 1999 and is a part of MSF
International. It aims to improve access to, and stimulate the development
of medicines, diagnostics and vaccines that could have a major impact on
morbidity and mortality in contexts where MSF works. The Access Campaign
challenges external medical-political and economic actors in order to
overcome barriers identified by practitioners in MSF programmes and those
practicing in similar environments. To this end, the Campaign aims to
influence international policies relevant to improving access and
stimulating innovation. The priorities of the Access Campaign are guided
by the medical challenges faced by MSF?s operations.
II- POSITION BACKGROUND
In collaboration with the MSF movement, the Access Campaign is planning to
launch a public-facing campaign on R&D. The campaign will seek to build
political and popular support to address the failures of our current
system of R&D, and to advocate for solutions to overcome those failures.
The Campaign Adviser will be a core member of the campaign team, helping
to support key advocacy elements through direct advocacy with stakeholders
and engagement of the MSF movement to further the campaign?s objectives.
III- POSITION WITHIN ORGANISATION
The Campaign Adviser will report to the AC Director of Policy & Analysis.
This position will work with the Access Campaign
and the broader MSF movement to support the launch of the campaign and
ongoing R&D advocacy work.
IV- OBJECTIVES OF THE POSITION
The Campaign Adviser will have responsibility within the team for
supporting the development, planning and implementation of the public
campaign strategy on R&D. They will do this in close collaboration with
the Access Campaign team and wider MSF movement. The Campaign Adviser will
oversee implementation of advocacy strategies by supporting MSF partners
in their advocacy activities with campaign targets, ensuring that key
campaign advocacy milestones are met, and contributing to the team?s
dynamic response to developments prompted by the campaign. S/he will be
responsible for helping to support the advocacy elements in coordination
with the core and extended campaign team. The Campaign Adviser will also
work with a broader coalition of civil society groups to amplify the
messages of the campaign and support the continuation of a longer term
campaigning effort beyond this time-limited public campaign.
V- MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
In collaboration with the rest of the campaign team, the Campaign Adviser
will support a range of advocacy and communications activities including:
?Campaign strategy ? lead the development of the campaign strategy
including the consolidation of campaign ?asks?, ensuring buy in from
relevant internal and external experts and stakeholders; ensure
appropriate advocacy strategies are developed.
?Campaign delivery ? ensure the strategy is implemented, regularly
reviewed and adapted according to campaign developments; align internal
resources to deliver the strategy and reach the agreed objectives
?Content creation ? support the communications team on content creation
and development of key messages in line with policy and advocacy
objectives, and with MSF field experience.
?Build relationships/network ? foster relationships with potential allies
(civil society, government, NGOs, humanitarian actors, etc.) to advance
the campaign goals and amplify the messages of the campaign.
?Advocacy support ? a) support MSF movement partners in designing and
implementing their advocacy strategies with key targets through
participation in meetings, providing back-up support, answering technical
campaign questions, etc.; b) Once identified, work with designated
priority targets, NGOs, and civil society stakeholders, to advance
campaign objectives through advocacy implementation.
?Monitoring/reporting ? help monitor campaign advocacy progress against
targets and campaign phases, and report to campaign team at agreed-upon
VI- PROFILE REQUIREMENTS
- Genuine interest in, understanding of, and commitment to the
principles and challenges of MSF
- A track record of building and managing successful
relationships/awareness raising initiatives with internal and external
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical research and development
- Experience liaising with members of governments, pharmaceutical
companies, NGOs, and/or multi- lateral organizations
- Demonstrated track record of analytic problem-solving/seeking solutions
- Strong project management skills and ability to participate as part of
- Experience with MSF?s operational mandate and structure is highly
- Excellent presentation and communications skills
- Flexibility, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Proficiency in English to mother-tongue standard (French, Spanish and/or
another language will be a significant asset)
- Experience in the fields of health, medicine, or the pharmaceutical
- Ability to travel
