Dear Colleagues,

Our program, the IDEA (Innovation+Design Enabling Access) Initiative, will
be offering a course this June as part of the Health Systems Summer
Institute on “Designing Transformative Innovation for Global Health.”
course will run for 4 half-days in the afternoon between Monday, June 19th and
Thursday, June 22nd at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
The course will be taught by Dr. Anthony D. So, MD, MPA, who is Professor
of the Practice and Director of the IDEA Initiative as well as the
Strategic Policy Program for ReAct-Action on Antibiotic Resistance. We
would appreciate your sharing this information with those who might
potentially be interested in this offering.

Over the course of the four days, participants learn key policy analysis
tools to examine potentially transformative technologies and apply public
health driven principles to adapt such innovation to resource-limited
settings. The course will also outline various ethical issues involved in
introducing technologies in these settings, from standards around quality
to donor-recipient relationships. Through a mixture of interactive
lectures, discourse with real-world practitioners, and student
presentations, participants will learn apply systems thinking, stakeholder,
value chain, and market analyses to address the therapeutic, financial, and
structural barriers to access to transformative health technologies. While
the coursework will focus on low- and middle-income countries, we hope that
the skills taught will be universal. This course can be taken either for 2
academic credits (resulting in an official transcript from the Johns
Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health) or not for credit for a reduced
cost. To register for “Designing Transformative Innovation for Global
Health” this summer, please go here
Attached, you will also find a flyer on the course that we hope that you
might share with friends and colleagues.

This is just one course out of 11 courses offered at this year’s Health
Systems Institute taught by other faculty at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg
School of Public Health. Other course offerings include “Monitoring and
Evaluation of Health Systems Strengthening in Low- and Middle-Income
Countries” and “Introduction to Improving Quality in Public Health
Practice.” Further information about the institute and its courses can be found
