Subject: [IFLA-L] Announcing the new FAIFE Network
I am delighted to announce the launch of a new network for everyone interested in Freedom of Access to Information and Freedom of Expression in library and information work.
Intellectual freedom is a fundamental human right as defined in Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and it lies at the heart of the work of library and information services. It is a right that is constantly being challenged across the world and as a profession we have an ethical and practical responsibility to support our users in discovering and using the information they need.
IFLA's advisory committee focusing on this vital subject (FAIFE) is establishing a new email list for all those who would like to actively take part in supporting freedom of access to information and freedom of expression at a national, regional and international level.
The network is intended to support of the work of the FAIFE Advisory Committee, serving as forum for exchanging information, for seeking comments and contributions to FAIFE projects, and for sharing invitations and suggestions of events where an IFLA FAIFE perspective could be helpful.
The FAIFE Network will also replace the existing FAIFE-L email list.
If you are active in freedom of expression and freedom of information as they relate to the work of libraries, or would like to join the debate please visit http://infoserv.inist.fr/wwsympa.fcgi/info/faife-n and join the new network now.
