Further to the recruitment earlier this year for a new Alternate Board
Member for the Communities Delegation to the UNITAID Board, I am pleased
to announce that Gracia Violeta Ross Quiroga has been appointed. Violeta
was selected by the panel after going through the application and
interview process. You can find her biography below.
This means that Nelson Otwoma has moved from being the Alternate to being
the Board Member for the Communities Delegation.
Gracia Violeta Ross Quiroga is from La Paz, Bolivia, and has studies in
Anthropology and a Master in Gender and Sexual and Reproductive Health.
Since 2000 when she discovered her HIV positive status, she decided to
organise people living with HIV/AIDS in Bolivia in order to push the
Bolivian government to deliver care and medication. Ross served as the
National Chair of the Bolivian Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS
Ross has represented Bolivia and Latin America in several global forums
and bodies such as the UNAIDS Program Coordinating Board and the
Developing Countries NGO Delegation of the Global Fund to fight AIDS, TB
and Malaria. Currently, Ross is the Community Representative in the TB-HIV
Working Group of the Stop TB Partnership and a member of the International
Advisory Committee on Gender of the University of Brighton, Sussex. She
has recently been appointed to serve as a member of the Civil Society
Advisory Group for UN Women in Latin America and has been elected as a
member of the Expert Advisory Group of the Medicines Patent Pool.
