Dear All

Join the email Campaign – Indian PMO – FTA concerns

The official *website* of Prime Minister of *India* Dr. Manmohan Singh
provides an opportunity for all those interested in voicing our concerns
about the EU-India FTA to leave a message by clicking on
http://pmindia.nic.in/feedback.php

The message should not be longer than 1000 characters (approximately 150
words). Please see draft message 1 and 2 below. *The message 1 or 2 *below
can be adapted by organizations and individuals. Please widely circulate
the message.

*Message 1*

Govt claims that inking of EU India FTA will provide a boost to the
economy, but EU stands to gain a lot more. 68.9 percent of our agricultural
exports and 64.3 percent of non agricultural goods already enter EU duty
free.

In reality, FTA lowers tariffs for EU agricultural exports that will flood
domestic markets, threatening farmers across the country. 80 million people
employed in dairy farming will be competing with subsidised EU dairy
exports.

The EU’s insistence on clauses that blindly enforce IP of its pharma and
agrochemical companies, will intimidate generic manufacturers and undermine
the judicial system. This will affect the availability of affordable
medicines and pesticides in the country.

Accepting the investor protection provisions and opening up govt
procurement to foreign companies will continue the trend of undermining
policy space in key sectors.

We request you to not to sign this FTA hastily and wait till the
parliamentary review process is concluded.

*Message 2*

We request you to not to sign EU India FTA hastily, end secrecy in FTA
negotiations and wait till the parliamentary review process is concluded.

The EU’s insistence on clauses that blindly enforce IP rights will affect
the availability of affordable medicines and pesticides in the country.

Tariff elimination on industrial goods, investor protection provisions,
liberalizing govt procurement and financial sector to foreign companies
will undermine policy space and employment generation in key sectors.
