INNOVATION AND ACCESS TO MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIES

CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR MIDDLE-INCOME COUNTRIES

A JOINT TECHNICAL SYMPOSIUM BY
WHO, WIPO AND WTO

GENEVA, 5 November 2014, WTO CR Room

Middle-income countries have made huge progress in the area of biomedical innovation and industrial development. However, as home to the world’s largest number of poor people, they are also facing challenges in ensuring equitable access to innovative health products for their populations.

The fourth technical symposium organized by WHO, WIPO and WTO will discuss middle-income countries’ challenges and opportunities in the health innovation area, and the public policies necessary to ensure that rapid economic growth contributes to access and Universal Health Coverage.
